Finding the right coffee table

When we think about buying new items of furniture, we often consider the importance of larger items. Some of the less obvious pieces of furniture can be just as important for expressing your own style.

If you're about to decorate your living room then there will be a number of factors that you're likely to consider. The first will probably be the general style that you are looking to achieve and the colour scheme that will be required.

As you turn your thoughts to furniture, you're very likely to think about your sofa, since this may be the largest piece of furniture in the room. How much thought are you giving to smaller items?

The answer may be that you have not given items like coffee tables and television stands enough thought. Also they may cost considerably less than a new sofa, they can have quite an impact on the overall feel of your room.

A coffee table, for example, should be seen as more than a simple resting place for your cups and magazines. The different styles available mean that you can opt for something that can really help to send out a message within the room.

My personal preference at the moment is for oak coffee tables. I like them because they are solid, giving the undoubted impression that they will last for a long time.

I also like the fact that wooden tables tend to work well with pretty much any colour scheme. This is a clear advantage if you are likely to frequently change the appearance of the room.

By purchasing a coffee table that is effectively timeless, you can ensure that it will always be fashionable. It's also a far cheaper option than buying a new table each time you decorate.

So have a good think about how the smaller pieces of furniture will have an impact on the room. You'll be surprised by how much they can catch the eye.

A good quality table can really help to transform a room.
